Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Zombie masterpiece from the Godfather of undead cinema George A. Romero, following the events from his 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead. After a raid that ended badly, a couple of SWAT enforcers lead a small group into the mall, planning to bide their time in the hopes that the undead swarm will blow over. But as the months pass, their lockdown caves in as the zombie apocalypse grows. Plus, with the arrival of a merciless band of bikers, the living becomes even more of a threat than the dead.

Romero's script is banal when not incoherent.

One of the best horror films ever made -- and, as an inescapable result, one of the most horrifying. It is gruesome, sickening, disgusting, violent, brutal and appalling.
