Casino Royale

James Bond movie #21 with James Bond #6: Daniel Craig. Said to be the most literal adaptation of an Ian Flemmings novel ('Casino Royale' being the first of the Bond books) since Sean Connery, the film is also hoped to revitalise the franchise.

James Bond is a new recruit at the MI6 team. He's reckless and careless and on a mission. After just earning his 00 status with his first 2 kills, he is sent to the Bahamas where he is to verse Le Chiffre in a game of Texas Hold 'Em Poker. Although Bond must ensure that Le Chiffre's death comes at the hands of his own people.

Craig makes Bond dangerous again in an 007 film that comes equipped with things you wouldn't normally expect of the franchise this many years on - character development, wit, depth, vulnerability, a sense of peril. Oh, and some very nice togs...

Though the film's final break-the-bank action sequence in Venice is worth waiting for, Casino Royale's 2-hour, 24-minute running time is long enough to exhaust all but the series' biggest fans...

Relaunches the series by doing something I wouldn't have thought possible: It turns Bond into a human being again -- a gruffly charming yet volatile chap who may be the swank king stud of the Western world, but who still has room for rage, fear, vulnerability, love...

Contrary to pre-release nay-sayers, Daniel Craig has done more with James Bond in one film than some previous stars have in multiple reprises. This is terrific stuff, again positioning 007 as the action franchise to beat...

Possibly the best Bond film ever

I will disclaim that I had never watched a previous Bond film in full when I first saw this, but I since have and find this film the most action packed, emotional and fulfilling.

Overrated I'd say... from the reviews below, one gathers fans have thoroughly loved it. From my point of view though, the Brosnan Bond was a bit tongue in cheek and this one seems to take it self far more seriously. Too seriously, because in itself the James Bond idea is so ridiculous and has been parodied so much. I don't know, seemed a bit laughable in...

I hate James Bond movies (and I've reluctantly seen them all)

But this one turned has converted me. I've not seen entertainment like this since the days of Indiana Jones. One of the best action and spy movies I've ever seen. Daniel Craig and NZ director Martin Cambell should be proud. It's taken them 50 years to get it right, but wow it packs a punch when they finally did!

Thankyou, Craig. Daniel Craig.

Thankyou Mr Craig. You have lit a flame of ambition, for all of those lost boys and girls out there. Thanks to Pearce Brosman, whom I lay all blame for the creation of the commercialization of the Emo Cult. Plasticky gadgets, "shagged not screwed" Martini's, Halle Berry and the other 56 women in his last film are all in themselves justifications of my...

Bond will always be BOND

This is fantastic! As a young guy Casino Royale is the perfect mix from action to fast cars....god that vanquish is HOT!...and a lil bit of romance. Craig does an outstanding job showing to everyone that the indestructable MI6 agent has everyday person qualities, vunerable, passionate, a dam good shot... Over all a top notch film if you're into the...

Bond is back and brutal

Out with suave, debonair, hair-never-out-of-place Brosnan Bond and in with mean, gritty, hair-wouldn't-settle-on-his-head Craig Bond. Should a guy who looks like a bad guy be Bond? Well luckily they make Mads Mikkelsen really evil-looking so Craig kind of gets away with his mad steely blues and acerbic one-liners. On the whole, it's just great to see...
