A quick guide to discounts cinema chains are offering movie club members

In the age of Netflix and Stan, when the cost of a monthly streaming subscription is not much more than a pint of beer, the price of movie tickets is an issue now more than ever.

The good news is that Australian cinema chains appear to be listening, with some evidence that they are bringing down the price of admission.

There’s a catch, but it’s not a big one. Cheaper movie tickets are generally only given to members of movie clubs, although they are free to join.

Here is a brief guide to the pricing structure for movie clubs for four of the major chains in Australia: Hoyts, Village, Event and Palace.

Hoyts: offering members savers for $15 on some titles $12 ‘super savers’ for others. For members the maximum price is $19 on Thursday to Sunday after 2pm.

Village: offering Vreward members $15 and $18 VMax sessions.

Palace: all movie club members in Sydney and Melbourne will pay $15.50 per session.

Event Cinemas: offering CineBuzz members $19 sessions
