Five movies that rock out to AC/DC

The music world is in mourning, with the recent death of legendary AC/DC co-founder and long-time rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young. He has passed away at the age of 64.

Malcolm, along with brother Angus, formed the band in 1973. He was credited as a co-writer on every song AC/DC recorded from 1975 to 2014. Like Angus, and their older brother George (who died last month), Malcolm was born in Scotland and emigrated to Australia in the early 1960s.

The band have had an incredible influence not just on music, but on popular culture more broadly – including appearing on the soundtrack of many different movies. To celebrate Malcolm Young’s life, the Flicks team have picked five movies that rock out to AC/DC.

RIP Malcolm Young. You rocked, and we salute you.

Ironman 2

Tony Stark doesn’t just have great taste in suits. He also has great taste in music. At the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2, Tony Stark aka Iron Man makes an awesome entrance, flying onto the stage of a packed-out stadium while rocking out to Shoot to Thrill. It’s epic.

Megamind

Pretty much everybody seems to have already forgotten about Megamind, that weird blue animated character voiced by Will Ferrell in the 2010 movie. Say what you will about him…that blue scamp has good taste in music. Like Tony Stark, he likes making a big entrance accompanied by a bangin’ tune. Includes arriving to Highway to Hell.

Varsity Blues

If you want to put AC/DC on the soundtrack of your movie, you’ve got to pay for the privilege. How much will it set you back? How about half a million big ones. That’s how much the producers of football drama Varsity Blues coughed up to use Thunderstruck. But we think it was worth it.

Battleship

This adaptation of the old school plastic board game wasn’t exactly a hit with the critics. But at least a small bit was awesome. Which was the bit where Thunderstruck played while a bunch of elderly navy veterans helped the heroes defeat alien scum. Awesome.
