Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth bring Thor: Ragnarok to Sydney

Hundreds of squealing fans congregated around the red carpet last night at Sydney’s premiere of Thor: Ragnarok.

Intern Pete, from the Kyle & Jackie O radio program, embarrassed the nation when he asked director Taika Waititi whether this was his first film – but other than that evening seemed to go smoothly.

Inside the cinema, Waititi addressed the anxious crowd, joking that they were about to watch a hard-hitting drama and that the (very funny) intro he had just delivered was one of the worst speeches of his life.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop was there, bragging about the film’s use of Australian locations and claiming it will “raise our profile overseas as a sophisticated, creative nation.”

Reviews of Thor: Ragnarok are currently embargoed, but the reception so far on Twitter has been positive. Here’s a selection of reactions from Australia and abroad.
