The film won Best Actor (Shahab Hosseini) and Best Screenplay at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It also won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Academy Awards, but Farhadi did not attend the ceremony due to President Donald Trump's ban on travellers from seven Muslim countries. Instead, a statement written by Farhadi was read out by businesswoman Anousheh Ansari - the first Iranian to go to space.Hide
